The Pinwheel Base

The pinwheel base is a very fun and easy base to fold. The pinwheel itself could also be considered a model, not just a base. There are actually two different ways to make a pinwheel base, and I will demo both of them. One is just precreases, while the other is folded from a boat base. The end result is the same, however; a beautiful pinwheel base.

Version 1:

Step 1: Fold a boat base

Step 2: Valley fold the far right top point up

Step 3: Valley fold the bottom left point down

Step 4: Turn the model over

Your completed pinwheel!

Version 2:

Step 1: Start with your piece of paper color/pattern side down

Step 2: Valley fold the left edge to the right and unfold

Step 3: Valley fold the top edge to the bottom and unfold

Step 4: Valley fold the top left corner to the bottom right and unfold

Step 5: Valley fold the top right corner to the bottom left and unfold

Step 6: Valley fold the left edge to the center and unfold

Step 7: Valley fold the top edge to the center and unfold

Step 8: Valley fold the right edge to the center and unfold

Step 9: Valley fold the bottom edge to the center and unfold

Step 10: Turn the model over so the color side is up

Step 11: Rotate 45 degrees and fold each of the corners to the center

Step 12: Unfold and turn over

Step 13: Press on the folded edge that is sticking up right where my index finger is in the picture so it 'breaks' (you can view this better in the next picture)

Step 14: Do the same to all the other sides (sorry about the drastic change of lighting)

Step 15: Take the midpoint of the top left side and valley fold it to the center

Step 16: Do the same on the other three sides

Step 17: Take each of the partitions that are sticking up and valley fold them to the side so they all go the same direction

Your pinwheel is now complete!
