The Dollar Sampan
A sampan is a flat-bottomed boat, and this model is folded from a dollar bill. It is also my personal favorite 'moneygami' model. It is similar to the regular sampan but the dollar bill's rectangular shape it makes it simpler.
Step 1: Start with your bill oriented horizontally and have the face face up.
Step 2: Valley fold the top half to the bottom
Step 3: Valley fold the bottom up to the top
Now we'll work with just the top right corner...
Step 4: Valley fold the corner diagonally
Step 5: Valley fold the new edge up to the top layer
Step 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 on the left side
Step 7: Turn the model over and repeat steps 4-6 on this side
Here's the tricky part. Now we're going to be basically reversing the model, starting with the left side.
Step 8: Open up the layers and push the bill up so it reverses itself (take it easy so the bill doesn't rip)
keep opening...
...until it looks like this
Step 9: Repeat step 8 on the right side
Step 10: Turn the model over and fold the bottom and top (not shown) edges to the center so the boat isn't so wide-bottomed.
Unfold partway and your amazing origami dollar sampan is complete! Now you can see why we have the face start face up. George Washington looks like he's ready to cross the Delaware River in his sampan, just like in the American Revolutionary War.
