The Traditional Box

The traditional box is a very neat little container and is relatively easy to fold. They are great for holding small objects like candies or coins. It is sometimes called the 'Masu'.


Step 1: Start by folding a blintz base and have the color side on the outside of the flaps


Step 2: Valley fold the top edge down to the center of the paper and crease


Step 3: Valley fold the bottom edge to the center and crease


Step 4: Take the left edge, valley fold it to the center, and crease it


Step 5: Valley fold the right edge to the center and crease


Step 6: Unfold the entire model so it is a square like you started with but it has a bunch of creases


Step 7: Valley fold the top corner down to the center


Step 8: Valley fold the bottom corner to the center


Step 9: Valley fold the top edge to the center



Step 10: Valley fold the bottom edge to the center



Step 11: Start to open the two edges you just folded down


Step 12: Pinch the two sides together at the spot shown below



Step 13: Flatten this new flap so it will stand perpendicular to the edges that have been folded up


It will look like this:


Step 14: Valley fold the flap that is sticking out down to form a side of the box, and have the triangle part at the top go over top the white triangular gap in the floor of the box


Step 15: Repeat steps 12 through 14 on the right hand side to complete your traditional box
